Kasey E. Power, PhD

Kasey Power, Ph.D., is an art educator, researcher, teacher educator, and curriculum designer whose work centers on the people, ideas, and questions shaping contemporary art education. With nearly two decades of experience across schools, museums, community organizations, and universities, she has taught learners from early childhood through the graduate level and has devoted much of her career to supporting current and future art educators.

Kasey teaches Art Education at the University of Florida, where her work includes graduate and undergraduate courses in art education, research, curriculum and instruction, contemporary issues, and modern and contemporary art. She also mentors graduate researchers and emerging educators, helping teachers turn the questions that arise in their own classrooms and communities into meaningful inquiry.

Her teaching and scholarship are grounded in care, curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that educators are not simply deliverers of curriculum, but thoughtful designers of learning experiences. Drawing from care theory, transformative learning, contemporary art practice, and visual and material culture, Kasey is particularly interested in how teachers make curricular decisions, evaluate the resources and ideas available to them, and develop practices that remain responsive to the learners and communities they serve.

Her current interests also explore the rapidly changing relationship between art education, technology, social media, and artificial intelligence. Rather than approaching emerging technologies as replacements for teacher knowledge or creativity, she is interested in how educators can use them critically and imaginatively—extending what is possible while keeping professional judgment, human relationships, and teacher agency at the center.

Before her university teaching, Kasey's work included secondary art education and teaching-artist experiences in museum and community settings, including the Tucson Museum of Art and the Idaho Services for the Deaf and Blind. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Art and Visual Culture Education from the University of Arizona and completed her undergraduate studies in art history, arts management, and fine arts at the University of San Francisco.

Across her teaching, research, and mentorship, one idea remains constant: the best educational spaces are built through relationships, meaningful questions, and the freedom to imagine what teaching and learning might become.
