Kasey E. Power, PhD

Bio

During my undergraduate studies, I was equally passionate about pursuing my interests in both art history and studio art. As an avid printmaker, I found tremendous joy in uncovering and understanding the processes necessary for a wide variety of print styles. As I approached my senior year, I interned with a nonprofit that placed artists in K-12 public schools that lacked funding for the arts. It was then that I realized that exploring artistic media for myself did not hold the excitement and fulfillment that I experienced when teaching those same media to students.

That realization led me to pursue a Master's degree in Art and Visual Culture Education, after which I worked as a 5th-12th grade art teacher. Later, upon returning to school to obtain my doctorate, I found a deep love for mentoring and supporting pre- and in-service art teachers.

That love brings me to the present day, where I serve as a Lecturer for the University of Florida's Online MA in Art Education Program. This role allows me to create and adapt curriculum based on the contemporary needs of the field, as well as the individualized experiences of my graduate students.

In addition to teaching, I also serve on the editorial board of the Florida Art Educator Association's award-winning publication, Fresh Paint.
